The Corvette C8.R broke with all the traditions of previous Corvette construction for the first time. A perfect mid-engine sports car should conquer the GTE world. For the sake of better weight distribution, Corvette ditched the build of 50+ years, the Corvette C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6 and C7, all with front engines, and the C8.R vehicle looked more like a prototype without the yellow livery Ferrari, than any tradition of its predecessors. Slowed down by Covid in 2020, the Detroit racer only made its debut in 2021 after Le Mans. In qualifying, the number 64 car impressed with an extremely fast 3:47:093 min, just behind the second-placed AF Corse Ferrari with 3:47:063 min and the outstandingly fast Auto Racing Porsche GTE stroke of 3:46:88 in the second qualifying drove and thus got hold of the first starting place. In the 24-hour race, however, it was the #63 that convinced. In the same lap they drove behind the AF Corse Ferrari #51 as the winner, narrowly finishing second for their successful debut at the Sarthe.
