With the withdrawal of the Jaguar and Aston Martin works teams, the Ferrari road to victory at Le Mans in 1960 was more achievable than in previous years. Briggs Cunningham, as team principal, fielded a 5 liter Corvette that put John Fitch and Bob Grossman in eighth place. But the Scuderia Ferrari Testa Rossa 59/60 with Paul Frère and Olivier Gendebien took the overall victory ahead of another Ferrari Testa Rossa of Ricardo Rodriguez and André Pilette. The Border Reivers team's Aston Martin DBR1/300 finished third, with none other than Jim Clark and Roy Salvadori - both Formula 1 drivers of their day. An illustrious field of brands and drivers finished in the other places: The DB HBR4 from Automobiles Deutsch & Bonet, start number 48 with Paul Armagnac and Gérard Laureau came fifteenth and won the 850 ccm category. The Porsche 356 B Abarth GTL with Herbert Linge and Hans-Joachim Walter
placed 10th and won the 1.6L category.
