The gas-turbine-powered record-breaking vehicle set a speed record of 403.089 mph (648.709 km/h) on July 17, 1964, in the salt flats of Lake Eyre in Australia. The specially manufactured Dunlop tires could have withstood speeds of nearly 800 km/h. The "&"dimensions of the CN7 were monstrous: the tail fin alone was 2.35 m high. More than 200,000 spectators gathered at the Aidelaide Town Hall for the car's presentation after the record run to celebrate Donald Campbell and his team.
