Le Mans 24 Hours 1950
#11, Bentley Corniche TT,
ER Hall / Tom Clarke
8th place overall, 4th place in 5.0 category
Yorkshireman Eddie Hall indulged his passion for motorsport thanks to the financial means and wealth of his family's textile trade. In 1936 he bought a Derby Bentley with the intention of driving it at Le Mans that year, but the race was cancelled. In 1950, when he was already 50 years old, he returned to Le Mans to drive the now 14-year-old vehicle alone for the full 24 hours. He remarkably finished eighth overall despite having to compete against much younger cars and men. A colossal achievement by a driver that secured his place in the Le Mans annals.
