2014 to 2016 were the three years in which the big three - Audi, Toyota and Porsche - inspired and thrilled Le Mans. They are here at high speed, captured in watercolor at the Hunaudières in 2016.
Audi has dominated Le Mans since their first win in 2000. The 'Silver Arrows' continued to evolve each season - including the leap into diesel technology in 2006. By 2016 they had won thirteen races, including those featuring the R18 pictured here - and then they shocked the racing world with their withdrawal. Toyota's first official Le Mans start was in 1985, with the 85C. Since then they have experienced numerous second places, as with the GT-One in 1999 and as seen here, the TS050. But an overall victory has so far been denied them.
Porsche returned to the LMP-1 class with the 919 Hybrid in 2014. They have since won the race twice – including with the 2016 919 pictured here – bringing their total victories to eighteen. All great results.
