Certainly one of the most popular 911s is the 1973 Carrera RSR. A decade after its introduction, the development of the 911 had made great strides. Along with its "duck stub wings" came the RS factory conversion with a roll cage, fully adjustable suspension, widened rear tires and even a fire extinguisher system as equipment. The slightly larger, supercharged 2897 cc engine developed 280 hp, which it delivered through a 5-speed gearbox. At its first appearance this year at Le Mans, the works RSR driven by Herbert Müller and Gijs van Lennep took first place in its class and fourth place overall. Another five privately entered RSR saw the checkered flag.
