DNF
In no time at all, the 917 was designed and built by Porsche for the 1969 24 Hours of Le Mans. The long-tail version still wore the movable rear wing, which did not give the car the necessary contact pressure, and which had already been banned in 1970. At high speed, the 917 was still extremely unstable. Three long tail versions started, but none saw the checkered flag. Start number 14, the works car with Rolf Stommelen and Kurt Ahrens, had to give up due to problems with the gearbox housing. A completely revised car would win the 24 Hours for the first time the following year.
