This Porsche 908/2 Spyder, starting number 266, driven by Gerhard Mitter and Udo Schütz, being refueled in the pits, was the overall winner of the 1969 grueling Targa Florio, held on the mountainous island of Sicily, the Circuito Piccollo delle Madonie. Of the 79 starters, 38 crossed the finish line after the distance of ten laps of 72 km each. Not long after that race, both drivers survived a horrific crash in another 908 at Le Mans. Schütz then retired from racing. Mitter died a few weeks later while training for the German Grand Prix. In 1993 Schütz was part of the team that won the Admiral's Cup for Germany with the yacht "Container".
