Wolfgang von Trips races out of the Le Mans pit lane in 1956 in his 550A RS Coupé. Mainly known for his Formula 1 career with Ferrari, the German was also an experienced sports car driver, winnin"&"g, for example, the major road race, the Targa Florio, in 1961, just four months before his untimely racing death at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. As a Le Mans veteran, with five races at the Sarthe, his best result was fifth place overall, which he sh"&"ared with Richard Frankenberg. This watercolor shows a section of this 1956 race.
