Two 'super heavyweights' of the Group C era, the Porsche 962 and the Jaguar XJR 9LM thunder into the Mulsanne corner. Followed by your fellow Silk-Cut and Rothmanns sponsored factory teams. The first six cars could have fit under a towel, writes Brian Laban in his book about the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as they brake into the Mulsanne corner. This book line inspired me to paint this picture. In the end, Porsche dominated the race. Stuck/Bell won with a 20-lap lead. For Derek Bell it was the fifth victory at the Sarthe.
