Trips is one of the icons of German racing. "Taffy" was caught by the racing virus early on and after successes as a "privateer" he quickly sat in the Porsche 356 and 550 and finally followed the call of the "Commendatore" Enzo Ferrari. The year 1961 was his most successful season - and also with the victory at the Targa Florio, together with Olivier Gendebien, he confirmed to be among the best drivers in the world. His death at the Monza GP that year came as a huge shock and his F1 accident a disaster.
