The watercolor 'Out of the Ashes' shows a later example from the early 1950's, in this case 1954 - the 550 prototype with Richard von Frankenberg at the wheel of his 1500cc Porsche. In the background you can see the Le Mans pit lane and down the straight that followed the dangerous Maison Blanche corner. It was the first year after the Second World War in which Germans were again allowed to take part in international sports.
