#1028 Twyffelfontein Dragonflies

Twyffelfontein Lodge is a cluster of modern buildings with large glass panels at the front through which one enters the lodge buildings. Each building overlooks a unique plain in Damaraland. Twyffelfontein derives from the Dutch word doubt. Because the Jewish man, who looked for the spring with a donkey cart and his small family and used it from then on, was not sure whether the water from the mountains behind would reliably supply him.

That it does is proven by the presence of dragonflies and butterflies of all kinds, which are ubiquitously buzzing around the lodge. These in turn ensure that there are actually frog songs at night, which interrupt the chirping of crickets on the grassy areas. The colors of the dragonflies are simply outstandingly beautiful.

The painting was created at the Twyffelfontein Lodge. In the foreground, the view goes over the stones with thousands of years old rock drawings by the natives of the area, who used them to forever capture waterholes and animals to be hunted with their wonderful animal symbolisations.
