24 Hours of Le Mans 1988
Jaguar XJR 9LM #2
Drivers: Jan Lammers, Johnny Dumfries, Andy Wallace
1st place overall, 1st place in C1
Jaguar's triumph at La Sarthe in 1988 was the culmination of three years of hard work on the part of the Tom Walkinshaw Racing team. The first two attempts in 1986 and 1987 ended in just fifth place out of five vehicles that started, even though the "cats" did extremely well in Group C of the World Sportscar Championship. The new, aerodynamically improved XJR-9LM was introduced and enabled even higher top speeds on the Mulsanne Straight. Five "Silk-Cats" started in 1988. The number 2 car with Lammers, Dumfries and Wallace finally broke through the Porsche phalanx with eight consecutive wins after 394 laps.
