Jaguar's 1988 triumph at Le Mans was the culmination of three years of hard work by the Tom Walkinshaw"&" Racing Team. The first two attempts in 1986 and 1987 resulted in only fifth place out of five cars, although the ""Cats"" performed excellently in the Group C World Sports Car Championship. The new, aerodynamically improved XJR-9LM was introduced, enabli"&"ng even higher top speeds on the Mulsanne Straight. Five ""Silk Cats"" competed in 1988. The number 2 car with Lammers, Dumfries, and Wallace finally broke through the Porsche phalanx with eight consecutive victories after 394 laps.
