Its outstanding maneuverability in corner combat made it a strong opponent for the German pilots in their Messerschmitt 109s. Frank Holroyd, Harold J Payn and Joseph Smith worked at Supermarine from 1930 to 1945 developing and refining the legendary Spitfire.
