#0378 'Good Morning Le Mans'
24 Hours of Le Mans 2012
Nissan Delta Wing, supported by Panoz and AAR
24H of Le Mans 1998
Nissan R390 Prototype #0
Originally planned as a radical departure from the traditional single-seater concept in America, the DeltaWing ended up being popular in sports car circles. Don Panoz and Dan Gurney supported the project with their companies. Although only powered by a 2-litre turbocharged engine, its radical triangular design proved more efficient than its LMP rivals when the ACO invited the car as a revolutionary unclassified “Garage 56” starter for the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans. The project received notable support from Nissan, whose last Le Mans factory appearance was in 1998 with the R390, shown here in prototype look. Unfortunately, the DeltaWing car was "shot down" by a Toyota exiting the Porsche corners and ended its promising race there in the wall. One of the pilots was Indianapolis legend Dario Franchitti's brother, Marino Franchitti.
