Rock groups and cars have a close connection, although few combinations are as famous as that of John Lennon and his special Rolls Royce. The Beatles' Phantom V was originally blac"&"k when it was delivered to the band in 1965, but was soon modified to reflect the ""psychedelic zeitgeist."" It is believed that the inspiration for the design came from an old gypsy cart he had in his garden. Steve Weaver was commissioned to paint the ca"&"r in a similar style in 1967. Five years after the musician's death, Sotheby's auctioned the Rolls for what was then a record sum of $2.29 million.
