He must have had an extraordinary character. The 1940s certainly formed very special characters. Pierre Levegh tried to win Le Mans and almost succeeded. He was leading the factory Mercedes with his Talbot until the last hour, without any driver change for 23 hours, when his car went on strike. So close and yet so far from the goal...
