The first ""Land Rover"" was developed by Maurice Wilks in 1947 and built by Rover in Solihull, England, in just a few weeks. The steel shortage in England led to the fortunate circumstance t"&"hat, with the exception of the steel ladder frame and the firewall, almost exclusively duralumin was used for the body parts of the Land Rover. The resulting longevity became a trademark of the ""Land Rover,"" as they have been spelled since 1980. By 2000"&", more than 1.6 million vehicles had been sold and reproduced under license in many countries around the world. They often served adventurers on their journeys of discovery around the world.
