The Atlantic crossing by seaplane from Lisbon to the islands of St. Peter and St. Paul,  by Sacadura Cabral and Gago Coutinho in 192"&"2, started in the Rio Tejo at the Torre de Belem in Lisbon.

Fairey IIIC seaplane

""The Crossing of the South Atlantic by Air""
In Lisbon, from the beach at the Torre de Belem, at the mouth of the Rio Tejo"&" into the Atlantic, the Portuguese pilots Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral took off on March 30, 1922, for a flight in stages over the Canary Islands, Cape Verde and to the Brazilian coast. They took off in a Fairey IIIC seaplane on April 18 from Porto P"&"raia in the Canary Islands, hoping to reach the Brazilian island of Fernando de Noronha. However, they only reached an emergency stopover, the Rocks of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, with the last drop of fuel. The strong headwind took its toll on the fuel. "&"The landing in rough seas failed - a float broke and the aircraft sank.
The Portuguese government sent a replacement aircraft by ship, which arrived on May 6, 1922. However, the aircraft could not be unloaded at the Rocks of Saint Peter and Saint Paul "&"and had to be shipped to Fernando de Noronha. From there, they first took the flight back to the rock to truly have completed the entire route by air. This time, however, the engine failed. 170 nautical miles from their destination, they drifted in the op"&"en sea, undetected for more than 15 hours, until a freighter spotted the two pilots at night. Both floats had been damaged in the meantime, and they were forced to abandon the aircraft again – it sank before their eyes. The public in Portugal and Brazil t"&"ook great pains to witness the tragedy. A third aircraft, named the ""Santa Cruz,"" was brought to Fernando de Noronha by a Portuguese military ship on June 2, 1922. With this aircraft, they made it to Rio de Janeiro in four stages from June 5 to June 17,"&" 1922. In 80 days of travel, they had needed just over 60 hours of flight time.
